Doctoral Financial Support

Eligible graduate students receive a fellowship that provides $28,000 per year, an in-state tuition waiver, a tuition remission for out-of-state tuition, and health insurance. Students in the department of Microbiology and Immunology are also eligible for a one time New Student Relocation Supplement of $700 for costs incurred in travel/moving to Greenville and for setting up residence here.

Students are also eligible for the Henry Stone Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) awarded by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. This award is supplemental to the standard School of Medicine Graduate Fellowship of $28,000/year. Only one student per year is eligible to receive this award, which is based on a superior record of academic achievement and promise for excelling in our doctoral program. This is a one time award paid in two installments during the awardee’s first year in the program.

The graduate school offers a limited number of Graduate Scholar Awards. This award consists of $3,000 per year in addition to the standard School of Medicine fellowship. The minimum requirements for the award are a 3.4 overall GPA, an outstanding score on the required standardized exam, and a nomination by the department. The prospective student is strongly advised to apply to their graduate program as early as possible in order to be considered for these awards.
